Casino Night

Save the Date for 24th Annual Casino Night 2017
October 6, 2017

Casino Night is Northern Arizona University-The W. A. Franke College of Business School of Hotel and Restaurant Management’s (SHRM) fun-filled and exciting fund-raising event. Don’t miss this year’s fun! The benefits of this night extend beyond the evening’s fun. This event is held on NAU Family Weekend every year many students brought their parents and other family members with them to partake in the fun. Beyond being the important scholarship fund raiser that it is, it is a hands-on event planning experience for the Casino Gaming Management course.

The event is arranged and managed by students of the Casino Gaming Management classes. Students actively apply what they have learned in class—and they love this hands-on challenge. They develop the marketing and promotion plan and, at the event, they deal blackjack, craps, roulette, bingo, and poker. They serve as pit-bosses, cashiers, and supervisors for raffle and auction departments. They develop human resources guidelines and train over 160 student staff members. They ballyhoo the prizes and manage the food and beverage sales and service.

“It’s a lot of work, but a lot of fun,” Dr. Vallen said, “and a great opportunity to give students real hands-on lab experience.”

The event includes such games as Texas Hold 'Em, Blackjack, Let It Ride, Pai Gow, Craps, Roulette, and "Extreme Casino Bingo," as well as other fun activites like a photo booth and both a live and silent auction. All of the SHRM students are friendly and helpful, making the event fun and memorable for all who attend.

A big draw for many attendees is "Extreme Casino Bingo," a version of the classic game with slightly modified rules. Players can buy cards for $25 in chips, and the person who won the game collected the pot.

In 2016, the silent and live auctions featured more than 150 remarkable donated packages, and events. Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, the SHRM Casino Night Fund reduces the cost of getting an education, and enhances the experiential learning for our students, 47% of whom are the first people in their families to attend college. Since its inception, Casino Night has generated more than $600,000 to help support our students.

For the 2017–2018 academic year, we awarded $12,000 of Casino Night Scholarship funds to 12 students.

Casino Night is an extremely fun event for people of all ages. There are many smiling faces, and everyone who goes appears to have a fantastic time. This is surely an event for everyone, and something students and parents should add to their Family Weekend itinerary this Fall.

If you joined us last year, we hope you had as much fun as we did making the evening happen. We thank you for your interest, past support, and hopefully your future participation.
