Brief Bio

Before joining NAU 2015, Mr. Lance G. Rohs MBA, CHIA, spent 19 years in the hotel industry with Marriott International. He has extensive executive leadership experience both in the Finance and Operations disciplines including Director of Finance and Accounting and overseeing the market Information Technology group, Director of Operations, General Manager and Area General Manager. Over the course of his hotel career he provided leadership in eight hotels from 400 to 1,500 rooms, both unionized and non-unionized, and gained experience in five distinct Marriott brands in hotels from virtually every segment of the industry from Select Service to Upper Upscale including large resort, urban, downtown, luxury, and large convention hotels. These hotels include the JW Camelback Inn, Marriott’s Mountain Shadows Resort, JW Desert Spring Resort, Renaissance Stanford Court, Santa Clara Marriott, the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, San Francisco Courtyard by Marriott Downtown, and the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront. In his last role with Marriott he was Area General Manager in Oregon with Revenue Management and Market Strategy responsibility for 11 hotels in the state. In addition, Mr. Rohs has held a variety of senior leadership roles for various organizations and Boards of Directors in the community related to the hospitality and tourism industry. For five years he was a member of Marriott’s Business Council and in Portland, Oregon he was the Chairman of the Citywide Convention Sales group overseeing the sales efforts of all hotel’s (Marriott and non-Marriott hotels) booking convention business into the city.

Here at NAU’s School of Hotel and Restaurant Management he teaches Leadership and Ethics, Food and Beverage Cost Control, and Revenue Management/Industry Analytics.

Mr. Rohs is a graduate of Arizona State University with a B.S in Finance and the University of Arizona where he earned his MBA. In addition, he is a certified hotel industry analyst (CHIA).
